It doesnt matter if you reverse the two switch wires to a single pole dimmer. Screw the dimmer to the box with the screws provided.

How to install a dimmer switch with only two wires. Using the screws provided attach the faceplate. Connect the black dimmer wire to your tagged common wire and remove the electrical tape. Notice the black wire is the only wire that we are controlling through the 2 way switch. You have an incoming hot wire black going to one screw it does not matter if you use the brass or silver screw on the side of the 2 way switch and a black wire from the other screw on the 2 way switch going to the load light ceiling fan etc. Posted by 4 months ago.
Looking for help on the wiring of this dimmer switch. Remove the plate that covers the switch and then unscrew the rest from the wall box. In the case of brass or chrome plates a pvc shield must be fitted between the plate and the wall and the earth lead on the plate must be connected to the earth terminal in the box. Use a voltage tester or turn the switch on and off to ensure that there is no power. Finish the job by installing the cover plate and turning on the power to test the new dimmer. Gently pull the switch to expose the wires.
